I believe this open letter of June 22, 2020 by Didier Raoult really sums up the current state of affairs regarding worldwide hydroxychloroquine research into covid-19 treatment. And by state of affairs, I am also referring to the political meat grinder poor Dr. Raoult found himself embroiled in when President Trump jumped on the HCQ band wagon.
From my perspective as a doctor, Dr. Raoult has proven the case for the efficacy and safety of HCQ for treatment of coronavirus. He has also resisted the political spin that has infected the scientific literature (check out this hit piece in the European Journal of Internal Medicine). One can only assume such a visceral rejection of HCQ is based on acute TDS, because half of the world is utilizing it safely and effectively. TDS in the scientific community has probably cost the Northern Hemisphere a couple of hundred thousand lives, but psychiatric contagions can be every bit as deadly as viral.
